Center Valley, PA, (September 1, 2010) – Earlier in the day the field hockey team and the women's soccer team each won via shutout so the pressure was on for the men's soccer team to follow suit and follow suit they did with a 3-0 shutout win over Cabrini College in non-conference action to open the 2010 season.

DeSales (1-0 overall) was out-shot 10-7 and the Cavaliers (0-1 overall) had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, but DSU was precise and on point with their chances, scoring three times.

The scoring opened at the 14:16 mark of the opening half when senior Aaron Gildner (Slatington, PA/Parkland) threaded a pass thru to junior Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga {PA}) who calmly fired it past the charging Cavalier keeper for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.

Just 28 seconds before the half, DSU struck again as senior Joe Yoha (DuBois, PA/DuBois) sent a centering pass into the box from the left side of the field. Freshman Josh Himes (Boyertown, PA/Oley Valley) used his 6-5 frame to his advantage, out-jumping everyone to the ball and his header went directly to a wide open Rusty Helwig (Wescosville, PA/Emmaus) and the senior did not disappoint firing the ball into a wide open net giving the hosts a two-goal halftime cushion.

The second half was back-and-forth until late with just under nine minutes to play, senior Corey Horn (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) sent a long centering pass into the box, perfectly placed onto junior Derek Long's (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) head as he leaped into the air and delicately touched a header over a charging keeper as the ball bounced into the net for the exclamation point.

Sophomore Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and freshman Mike Thompson (Glenmoore, PA/Bishop Shanahan) shared the shutout with Franczak making two saves in 86 minutes of action and Thompson also stopping two shots over the final four minutes.

DSU returns to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Baptist Bible College for another non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
