Clermont, FL (March 8, 2011) – The DeSales University softball split its two games over the first two days of its spring break trip down south to Clermont, FL with wins over Hannibal-LaGrange University and Brandeis University on Sunday and Monday.
Game One vs. Muhlenberg College (L/7-10):
In the first game of the 2011 season for the Bulldogs, DSU opened up a 6-1 lead with six runs in the bottom of the second inning but the Mules countered with six runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-6 lead and added two in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 10-7 win. Laura Pironi hit two home runs in her first career collegiate game and knocked in three runs and senior
Kate Steiner had two hits and two RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Game Two vs. Hannibal-LaGrange University (W/7-3):
In the second game of the first day, sophomore
Brittany Wilson pitched a complete-game in her first collegiate start for the Bulldogs, allowing just six hits and three runs over seven innings. Wilson also struck out six and walked just one. Steiner, fellow senior
Kristin Schultz, and junior
Christine Petrilla each had three hits with Steiner smacking her first homer of the year. Junior
Brianna Chilcoat added two hits and two RBIs in the win.
Game Three vs. Brandeis University (W/6-1):
The first game of the second day saw junior
Katie Morrissey strike out seven over seven innings, allowing just three hits and one unearned run to earn her first win of the season. Schultz knocked in three runs, despite not recording a hit, while Steiner, Pironi, and Morrissey each had two hits. Morrissey also scored three runs.
Game Four vs. John Carroll University (L/2-5):
In the second game of day two, John Carroll scored three times in the third inning and added solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to earn the win. Senior
Jen Lococo suffered the loss in the circle allowing two earned runs over five innings, striking out five. Lococo had two of the seven hits, knocking and scoring a run in the loss.
