Center Valley, PA (April 14, 2011) – The records just keep on falling as seniors Jen Lococo and Kate Steiner are waging a personal battle on the DeSales University softball record book with Lococo taking a turn this afternoon breaking the all-time record for hits in the doubleheader sweep of Elizabethtown College on a perfect Thursday afternoon for softball.

These two seniors have now combined to set three different career records over the past three weeks with a few more records holding their breath as they inch closer and closer. Today it was Lococo lacing four hits in the two games to move past Kerri Andrews for first on the all-time hits list with 175 career hits. She can't rest easy however as Steiner is on her heels with 168 hits following today's double dip. Lococo is also the career record holder in RBIs with 116 following today's game, while Steiner is first all-time in runs scored with 117, after three trips across home plate today, as well as assists with 340.

Lococo is also second all-time in doubles with 37, Steiner is tied for third all-time in triples with 15, and both of them are tied for second all-time in home runs with 18, just two behind all-time leader Kelly Moran. Oh and don't forget fellow senior Kristin Schultz who is approaching the top ten in RBI's and is second all-time in putouts with 703.

In the opener Lococo pitched a gem allowing four hits and two runs in the first inning alone, but then settled down to retire the next 18 batters and 19 straight overall, while the DSU offense came alive with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a 3-2 win.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lococo started the rally with a bomb to leftfield, her fourth dinger of the year. Sophomore Julie Brugger followed with a rocket off the wall in left and freshman Cassie Wagman also blasted a shot to left field, scoring Brugger and tying the score. Junior Christine Petrilla then came thru with a base hit to left field, scoring Wagman with the eventual winning run.

Lococo fanned seven and did not walk a batter to earn her fifth win of the season, and the 40th victory of her career. She is now just the second pitcher in DeSales history to win 40+ games in a career in the circle. She also finished 2-for-3 at the plate and Brugger was 3-for-3 to lead a seven-hit attack.

In the second game, sophomore Katie Morrissey continued her terrific pitching over the past few weeks with another complete-game effort, scattering seven hits over five innings, also striking out seven, and also not issuing a walk. It is her sixth win of the year and the 30th complete-game of her career.

Morrissey was backed by plenty of offense as DSU scored in all but the third inning including four times in the first and fourth inning to win by the eight-run rule after five frames.

Steiner was 2-for-3 with three runs scored out of the lead-off spot, including her team-leading fifth triple of the year, Schultz had two hits and scored twice, Lococo had two more hits, including a three-run homer and drove in five runs, and Wagman went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, weather pending, when they host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm. If the predicted weather rolls thru, the game will likely be pushed to Sunday afternoon, also at 1:00 pm.
