Bethlehem, PA (April 17, 2012) – Freshman Taylor Kelly and senior Brianna Chilcoat each had three hits, scored three times, and accounted for four RBIs leading the DeSales University softball team to a 7-5 game two win, splitting a non-conference doubleheader at local rival Moravian College on Tuesday afternoon after dropping game one, 7-1.

In the opener, DSU (10-20) managed just two hits, but did take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Chilcoat reached on an error and later scored on a second Greyhound (23-9) error.  Moravian countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and led 5-0 after two frames as Jenna Carmon allowed just two hits in earning her 12th win of the season in the circle.

Junior Julie Brugger and junior Brittany Wilson accounted for DSU's two hits in the game one loss.  Freshman Rachel Vogel took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on three hits, walking two.

In the second game the Bulldogs offense came alive, pounding out 14 hits with Kelly and Chilcoat leading the way.  Trailing 2-0 entering the third inning, Kelly doubled with one out, Chilcoat pushed Kelly to third with a bunt single, stole second, and both runners came around to score on an RBI single from senior Christine Petrilla.

DSU made it 4-2 in the fourth when Kelly delivered a two-run single plating freshman Shelby Wilson and junior Courtney McKenna.  Moravian tied it in the bottom of the fifth, but the Bulldogs scored twice more in the sixth to lead 6-4 on an RBI double from Kelly and an RBI single from Chilcoat.

Moravian had the bases loaded and pulled to within one run in the bottom of the sixth inning but senior Katie Morrissey pitched out of the jam after DSU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single from McKenna, Morrissey worked around a lead-off walk to earn her second save of the season.

Senior Christine Petrilla earned the win, her fourth of the season pitching five innings allowing seven hits and four runs.  Morrissey allowed just one hit and one run over the final two innings, striking out one.  In addition to Kelly and Chilcoat, Petrilla knocked in two runs and McKenna and freshman Ericka Esposito each had two hits in the game two win.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, April 21st when they host Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
