Center Valley, PA (May 1, 2012) – Senior Brianna Chilcoat circled the bases one last time, this time in tears, after homering in her last career at-bat, highlighting a tough day for the DeSales University softball team, who dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Alvernia University, 8-1 and 5-1, to finish the season with a 15-25 overall record.

In the opener, Alvernia (32-8) scored twice in the first inning and three more times in the third to open up a 5-0 lead.  DSU got on the board in the fifth with a run but just couldn't get anything going the rest of the way as AU's Brittanie Wolfe earned her 18th win of the season allowing just seven hits and striking out five over seven innings.

Senior Katie Morrissey took the loss, striking out five in her last career game, finishing her career with 410 strikeouts to rank second on the all-time list.  Chilcoat had two hits in game one, both bunt singles to third base and freshman Taylor Kelly also had two hits and knocked in DSU's lone run.

In the second game, the Bulldogs once again fell behind, trailing 5-0 after five innings.  Chilcoat hit her memorable home run with one out in the sixth to make it a 5-1 game and DSU had runners on first and second with one out and a chance to cut into the lead even further, but a pop out and ground out to the pitcher ended the frame and the threat and DeSales went in order in the seventh.

Senior Christine Petrilla had two of DSU's five hits in game two to finish her career ranked ninth all-time with 134 career hits.  Freshman Rachel Vogel took the loss, notching her team-high fifth complete-game of the year allowing seven hits and four earned runs over seven innings.
