Center Valley, PA (September 12, 2012) – The DeSales University men's soccer team controlled play for nearly the entire afternoon, out-shooting Cabrini, 24-11, for the game but the Cavaliers struck late to tie the game at one and left town with a 2-1 win in overtime on a header from
Christian Martin with just 55 seconds left in the first overtime period to shock the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs (3-2-1) had more than enough chances to break open the game, out-shooting the Cavaliers (2-3-1), 11-1 in the first half but were just unable to get one past CC's keeper,
Eric Nowicki.
After a scoreless opening half, DSU wasted no time getting on the board in the second half as junior
Scott Webb scored, knocking home a shot off the foot of junior
Adam Berish after it was blocked by the defense. Webb's goal was the first of his career and came just 24 seconds into the second half.
That score remained nearly the entire half and almost became a two-goal game with about five minutes left when junior
Padraic Farrell had a golden opportunity to give DeSales an insurance goal after the Cavalier keeper lost control of a ball and Farrell was there, but his shot sailed high over the bar and the game remained a one goal game.
Just over a minute later Cabrini got the tying marker.
Brett Lockbaum sent a long throw into the box and
Sean Neary was there to flick the head ball to the back post where
Anthony Girolamo was unmarked and he fired a shot inside the far post to the game at one with 3:57 left to play.
The game went into overtime and with under a minute left Cabrini was awarded a free kick about 20 yards outside the box.
Kyle Johnson sent a perfect ball into the box and Martin went unmarked once again as his header found the back of the net ending the game and giving Cabrini the comeback win.
Sophomore
Colin Sulpizio made four saves for the Bulldogs in the loss. The Bulldogs return to action looking to rebound from today's loss on Saturday when they travel to Immaculata University for another non-conference game beginning at 2:00 pm (note time change).
