Center Valley, PA (September 15, 2012) – Drew University scored twice in the first seven minutes and added a third goal in the 24th minute to take a 3-0 lead and the DeSales University women's soccer team never recovered in a 3-2 loss to the Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
Drew (3-2) looked ready to run away from the Bulldogs (3-3-1) in the early going, taking a 1-0 lead just 4:16 into the game on a goal from
Emma Campbell and a 2-0 lead just 2:33 later on a goal from
Caroline Kuras.
The Rangers then made it 3-0 at 23:45 when Kuras served a corner kick into the box and Campbell was there to knock it home from point blank range.
That score stood into the half as Drew out-shot DeSales, 9-4, in the first half.
The second half was a much different game as the Bulldogs out-shot the Rangers, 7-1, and nearly came all the way back.
Junior
Taylor Batcsics scored in the 78th minute after sophomore
Alyssa Borgesi sent a free kick into the box and sophomore
Alyssa Brandt flicked a header to Batcsics on the far post. It was her first career goal in just her second career game.
Junior
Ariel Merkt then cut the lead down to one at 86:44 when she sent in a high arching shot at the goal and just under the cross bar as the Ranger goalie tipped it but not enough as the ball trickled into the net.
The Bulldogs had a few more chances and a shot with just five seconds left from freshman
Jamie Barna to tie it, but it was saved by DU's third keeper of the day as time expired on DeSales.
DSU will return to the pitch on Tuesday when they take to the road, traveling to Albright College for a non-conference game beginning at 5:00 pm.
