Purchase, NY (April 20, 2013) – Freshman DJ McCauley tossed a two-hit shutout in game one but the Bulldogs were unable to muster anything offensively all day and made four errors in the second game as Manhattanville College scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and DeSales had to settle for a split by scores of 1-0 and 3-2 in its Freedom Conference doubleheader with the Valiants on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs see their 13-game win streak come to an end with the loss in the second game but improve to 22-7-1 overall this season and are 11-1 in the Freedom Conference heading into a showdown with King's College next Saturday with the top seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs on the line.

In the first game, McCauley was outstanding allowing just two hits over seven innings and striking out eight leading DSU to a 1-0 win.  She only walked one and retired the side in order in four of the seven innings, including the last two.

DSU's lone run came in the fourth inning when freshman Samantha Gibson singled home freshman Emily Hockman with two outs.  Hockman finished game one with two of DSU's six hits.

In the second game, DSU again found itself in a pitcher's duel.  The Bulldogs squandered an opportunity in the top of the first inning when they had bases loaded and just one out but an inning ending double play ended the threat and the Valiants took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

DeSales tied it in the third inning when senior Julie Brugger doubled home Hockman with two outs and the game remained tied at one heading into the seventh inning.  In the top of the seventh, DSU took a 2-1 lead when sophomore Kayla Adanalian singled home sophomore Taylor Kelly who had reached with two outs on an error and stole second base.

Sophomore Rachel Vogel retired the lead-off hitter in the seventh but a single to leftfield and an error moved her to second base and a single by Brianna Scapperotti one batter later tied the score at two.  Another out saw the league's top hitter, Jessica Van Galen step to the plate and the Bulldogs intentionally walked her to put runners on first and third with two outs but MVC's Alyssa Taylor delivered in the clutch with a single thru the left side and the Valiants walked off with a one-run win and the DSU had its first loss of the Freedom Conference season.

Freshman Michelle Gessner led the offense in game two with two hits.

The Bulldogs are right back to action tomorrow when they travel to Montclair State University, the #1 ranked team in the country, for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
