Montclair, NJ (May 10, 2013) – For the second straight day the DeSales University softball team found themselves in a pitcher's duel but this time came out on the wrong end falling 1-0 to NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament host, Montclair State University, in the second round of the regional tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (29-11-1) now fall into the loser's bracket and will look to advance tomorrow morning when they take on Roger Williams University in the first game of the day beginning at either 10:00 am.  A win in that game and DSU will advance to play again tomorrow at 5:00 pm.

Yesterday the game remained a scoreless tie into the seventh inning when the Bulldogs scratched out a run on an infield hit and today it was scoreless entering the sixth inning when Montclair State scored a run with two outs on a hard hit ball that climbed up freshman Michelle Gessner's arm and into left-center field scoring Katie Muglia who had doubled with one out from second base.

DSU's best chances to score came in the second, third, sixth, and seventh innings.  In the second the Bulldogs put its first two runners on-base and had first and third with one out after a sacrifice bunt and Red Hawk throwing error but consecutive strikeouts ended the threat.

In the third and sixth innings, DeSales had a runner on second with one out but was unable to get the big hit and in the seventh, a single by sophomore Shelby Wilson and walks to senior Courtney McKenna and Gessner loaded the bases with two outs but a pop out to third base ended the threat with the Red Hawks escaping with a 1-0 win, its second 1-0 win over the Bulldogs this season.

Freshman DJ McCauley was once again terrific scattering four hits and striking out three over seven innings.  McCauley and Wilson had DSU's two hits in the loss.
