Montclair, NJ (May 9, 2013) – Sophomore Taylor Kelly singled home sophomore Kayla Adanalian in the top of the seventh and freshman DJ McCauley tossed her seventh shutout of the season leading the DeSales University softball team past Kean University, 1-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (29-10-1) tie the single-season record for wins in a season and advance to the play the region's top seed and host Montclair State University, a 7-3 winner over College of Staten Island, earlier in the day.  Game time for tomorrow is set for 3:00 pm but could be changed.  Updates will be posted on the DeSales softball schedule on the web site and on twitter when announced.

The Bulldogs had at least one base runner in all but one inning and a runner in scoring position in the first, second, third, and fifth innings before finally breaking thru in the seventh.

Adanalian pinch-hit for sophomore Ericka Esposito to lead off the seventh and dropped down a bunt single just in front of the Cougar catcher.  Senior Courtney McKenna sacrificed Adanalian to second and she moved to third with two outs on a ground out to the shortstop.

Taylor came to the plate and hit a hard ground ball into the hole on the left side but the Kean SS made a nice stop and fired a strike to first base but Kelly beat the throw by a step as Adanalian stepped on home plate.

In the bottom of the inning, McCauley retired the first batter on the first pitch, but then issued a walk, hit batter, and another walk loading the bases with one out.  She got a pop-up to third for the second out and preserved the win with a fly out to left field to end the game.

McCauley allowed just three hits over seven innings, walking four and striking out five.  She breaks the single-season record with her 17th win of the year, while also recording a single-season best seventh shutout of the season.

Kelly finished with two of DSU's nine hits.  All but two Bulldogs who started recorded hits in the win.
