Chester, PA (January 17, 2015) – The DeSales University women's track & field team re-started its indoor season traveling to Widener University for a dual meet on Saturday afternoon that saw the Pride defeat the Bulldogs, 79-55.
The top four finishers were counted in the scoring between the two teams with neither team allowed to score more than two athletes in each event.
Among the top finishers for DeSales were sophomore
Katie Cappuccino taking second place in the 55-meters (7.94) and first place in the 400-meters (1:06.50). Sophomore
Beth Dauer (1:09.72) and junior
Abby Labar (1:10.42) placed second and third behind Cappuccino in the 400-meters.
Dauer was among the top finishers in the 800 with a fourth place finish (2:53.00), while freshman
Veronica Wheeler (5:45.72) and sophomore
Katie Downing (5:45.75) placed second and third in the mile. Wheeler and Downing repeated that finish in the 3,000-meters with times of 12:05.29 and 12:05.63 and junior
Vanessa Rappold was fourth in a time of 12:13.21.
The 4x800-meter relay team took home first place featuring Dauer, Labar, Wheeler, and Downing finishing in a time of 10:59.61.
In the field events senior
Alyssa Brandt was second in the high jump (4-09.00) and sophomore
Shaye Smith was third (4-07.00). Sophomore
Emily Rogan was first in the triple jump (33-07.25), while Brandt added a third place finish in the shot put (29-04.75) and junior
Megan Warner was second in the weight throw (46-04.25).
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, January 23
rd when they travel to the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College.
