Center Valley, PA (April 19, 2015) – A seventh inning rally fell just short in game one and a big first inning by Susquehanna University in game two spoiled the DeSales University softball team's senior day as the Bulldogs were swept by scores of 4-3 and 14-2 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
Game One (L/3-4)Game one was a pitcher's duel into the sixth inning with the score tied at one when SU (22-5 overall) broke thru with three runs on three hits, including two doubles, and a costly Bulldogs error as the Crusaders took a 4-1 lead.
The Bulldogs (12-12 overall), who had tied the game at one in the fourth inning on an RBI double from senior
Carly Bartholomew plating junior
Emily Hockman who doubled to lead off the inning, rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning.
DSU had a runner on first with two outs when senior
Kayla Adanalian singled to put runners on the corners. Junior
Michelle Gessner then doubled home two runs and Hockman reached base when her pop up to the pitcher was lost in the sun and dropped for a hit but junior
DJ McCauley fouled out to the first baseman as the Crusaders escaped with the game one win.
McCauley suffered the loss allowing three earned runs over seven innings striking out three. Adanalian had three hits and scored once and Hockman had two hits in the loss.
Game Two (L/2-14)Nothing went right for the Bulldogs in the first inning of game two as Susquehanna sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs as three different pitchers saw action in the first inning for DeSales.
DSU was able to get runs in the second and fifth innings as sophomore
Alexa Beaumont scored on a wild pitch after singling in the second and Bartholomew doubled home Hockman in the fifth for DSU's two runs.
Senior
