DSUMXC MAC Champions 2023

Dominating Performance Leads Men's CC to Second MAC Championship

Dallas, PA (October 28, 2023) - Seven Bulldogs earned All-Conference honors placing among the top 19 leading a dominating performance as the DeSales University men's cross country team won its second MAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at Letterkenny Park.

DeSales entered the race as the pre-race favorite and didn't disappoint as seven Bulldogs earned All-Conference honors. DSU totaled 37 points well ahead of second place Misericordia University with 94 points. Head coach Al Weiner earned MAC Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career leading DSU to its second MAC Conference title, the first since 2007.

The Bulldogs had a terrific spread of just 1:15. Senior Shane Artis led the way earning All-MAC First-Team honors with a second place finish and a time of 26:51.7 Graduate student Matt Santacoloma finished just behind Artis in third place with a time of 26:57.3 to also earn All-MAC First-Team honors and senior Nick Manidis also earned All-MAC First-Team honors with a sixth place finish and a time of 27:08.4.

Four more Bulldogs received All-MAC Second Team honors for finishing in the top 20 overall. First-year Joey Wilson broke ahead of the pack to notch a 12th place overall finish in a time of 27:44.8. Finishing close behind was a trio of Bulldogs, consisting of sophomore Davis Trump, graduate student Brian Bruno, and junior Josh Deremer. They finished as a pack to notch 17th (28:05.0), 18th (28:06.0) and 19th (28:06.7) overall placements, respectively.

The rest of the championship team finished strong in a tough race, some of whom competed in the final cross country races of their career:
·      Dean Ricco, Senior – 28:59.2, 38th overall
·      Dylan Doskocil, First-year – 29:59.6, 62nd overall
·      Cody Smith, Junior – 30:05.5, 64th overall
·      Tom Greve, Graduate – 30:17.0, 71st overall
·      Ben Phillippy, Senior – 30:22.0, 74th overall

DeSales returns to action in two weeks when they compete at the NCAA Division III Metro Region Championships hosted by Rowan University. DSU was ranked fourth in the lastest USTFCCCA Metro Regional Rankings.
