Center Valley, PA (October 7, 2023) - The DeSales University men's cross country team took first place out of 11 teams at the DeSales University 40
th Annual Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning.
DSU paced the field with just 28 points. The Bulldogs were able to put six runners in the top 10 overall finishers while going head-to-head with conference rivals Misericordia, Eastern, and Arcadia, among other teams. The 10 fastest Bulldogs also received awards for finishing within the top 20 overall runners.
Senior Shane Artis was the first-place collegiate finisher, breaking the school record on the home course and nearly setting a personal best with a time of 25:38.8 (second overall). Second for the team was senior Nick Manidis, who also nearly set a personal best with a time of 26:04.4 (fourth overall). Graduate student Matt Santacoloma finished shortly after with a fifth-place overall placement in a time of 26:12.0.
A trio of Bulldogs rounded out the top 10 overall runners, including sophomore Davis Trump (26:33.7), junior Josh Deremer (26:37.1), and first-year Joey Wilson (26:45.5), who finished in eighth, ninth, and tenth place, respectively. All three set personal bests with their marks.
Graduate student Brian Bruno was the seventh-place finisher for the team, finishing 13th overall with a time of 27:15.4. Also receiving awards for top 20 overall times was senior Ben Phillippy, who set a personal best with a time of 27:17.8 (15th place), graduate student Tom Greve (27:44.1 – 18th place), and senior Dean Ricco (27:57.2 – 20th place).
There were several personal bests from other Bulldogs, including:
· Cody Smith, Junior – 28:01.9, 23rd overall
· Jozef Callano, First-year – 28:13.3, 27th overall
· Antonio Rinaldi, Sophomore – 28:20.0, 30th overall
· Teddy Novak, First-year – 29:34.3, 50th overall
· Andrew Sidorski, First-year – 29:52.1, 50th overall
· Julian Ortiz, First-year – 31:56.9, 62nd overall
· John Murphy, Junior – 32:01.3, 64th overall
After an incredibly successful home invitational, the Bulldogs will carry their momentum to the Border Battle @ Rowan University, home of this year's Metro Region Championships, next Saturday at 11:00 AM.
