Newville, PA (September 23, 2023) - The DeSales University men's cross-country team competedin the 8K race at the Dickinson University Long-Short Invitational on this rainy Saturday morning. The race took place on the challenging course at Big Spring High School, home of this year's NCAA Division III National Championships.
The competitive field was loaded with talent from nationally-ranked teams Carnegie Mellon and Calvin, and regionally-ranked teams such as Babson, Case Western, Dickinson, Elizabethtown, and Wesleyan. The team finished with just 132 points to tie for fourth place, but ultimately lost the tiebreaker to Case Western.
Senior
Shane Artis led the pack, receiving an award for finishing eighth place overall in a time of
25:50.3. Senior
Nick Manidis notched an 18
th place finish with a time of
26:18.6. Graduate student
Matt Santacoloma finished third for the team in a time of
26:37.3, good for 29
th overall.
Rounding out the top five scorers were junior
Josh Deremer and first-year
Joey Wilson, who both set huge personal bests. Deremer finished 35
th overall in a time of
26:54.8, while Wilson finished 42
nd with a time of
27:07.8.
Finishing in the top seven for the team was first-year
Dylan Doskocil – who set a personal best in route to finish 83
rd overall with a time of
28:02.5 – and senior
Ben Phillippy, who finished close behind with a time of
28:07.4 (85
th overall).
The Bulldogs will have a week to train and recover ahead of their next competition on Saturday, October 7 at the DeSales University Invitational at 10:30 AM.
