Center Valley, PA (April 26, 2009) – Senior day did not go exactly as planned as the DeSales University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to York College (Pa.) in two tightly contested non-conference games on another hot afternoon in Center Valley, PA.

The Bulldogs fall to 23-13 overall as they await the Freedom Conference playoffs which will begin on Friday afternoon with a first round game vs. Delaware Valley College at 1:00 pm at Wilkes University (site of the entire Freedom Conference playoff tournament). York improved to 29-14 with the two wins.

On Sunday, DSU dropped the opener 4-1 as York scored once in the second and three times in the fifth to open up a 4-0 lead. The Bulldogs rallied with one run in the bottom of the seventh inning when freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) doubled home pinch-runner, junior Emily Hoffman (Laceyville, PA/Wyalusing Valley), but it was not enough in the game one loss.

Freshman Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) took the loss allowing all four runs (only one earned) over seven innings while striking out five. Senior Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had two of DeSales' five hits.

In the second game the game was tied at two entering the sixth inning after DSU scored solo runs in the second and fifth frames on an RBI fielder's choice from sophomore Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) and an RBI single from sophomore Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) in the fifth.

The Spartans took a 4-2 lead with two tallies in the sixth before the Bulldogs once again rallied in the seventh as senior Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) tripled and scored on a Spartan error and senior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) singled with two outs, bringing the game-winning run to the plate but a ground out to short ended the threat as DSU fell short once again.

Lococo took the loss allowing four runs, three earned over seven innings, striking out three. Pfitzenmayer had three hits and scored twice, Kensecki had two hits, Lococo had two hits and drove in one run, and sophomore Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) had two hits including a triple and a run scored.
