Chester, PA (May 8, 2021) - Sophomore
Xavier Phoenix took home MAC Gold in two events and was named the MAC Rookie of the Year leading the DeSales University men's track & field to a second place finish out of 15 teams at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
It is DSU's highest finish since winning the Outdoor Championship back in 2011.
Day Three (Saturday)
Phoenix earned MAC Gold for the second straight day taking the triple jump title with a school-record jump of 14.20m. Other top finishers on Saturday included junior
Dan Mends taking third in the 110 meter hurdles (15.10), freshman
Kyle Dunbar taking third in the 400 meters (50.28) and sixth in the 200 meters (22.40).
In the 800 meters DSU had three runners in the top five as senior
Matthew Kraus was second (1:53.66), senior
Carl Tyce was fourth (1:56.09), and senior
Nick Cauley placed fifth (1:56.94).
Sophomore
Ason Rutledge was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (58.27) and Kraus was third in the 1,500 meters (3:59.74).
The 4x100 meter relay team of Mends, Dunbar, freshman
Matt Horak, and Phoenix finished fifth (44.18) and the 4x400 meter relay team of Rutledge, Dunbar, Tyce, and Kraus took second (3:24.08).
In the javelin, graduate student
Jake Kraycer was fifth (50.12m) and senior
Alessio Brattoli was sixth (47.97m), while Kraycer also placed fifth in the shot put (13.51m).
Day Two (Friday)
Sophomore
Xavier Phoenix gave DSU its second MAC individual title winning the long jump with a jump of 7.02m. Graduate student
Chris Brinkman earned points taking seventh in the discus (39.08m) and sophomore
Erik Lapszynski was sixth in the decathlon (4,627 points).
Freshman
Kyle Dunbar qualified for the finals in both the 200 meters (22.34) and 400 meters (50.62), while three Bulldogs qualified for the 800 finals including senior
Nick Cauley, senior
Matthew Kraus, and sophomore
Carl Tyce.
Sophomore
Ason Rutledge also qualified for the finals in the 400 meter hurdles (57.57).
Day One (Thursday)
The 4x800 relay finished first with a time of 7:59.32 featuring freshman
Shane Artis, sophomore
Carl Tyce, senior
Nick Cauley and senior
Matthew Kraus.
Sophomore
Matt Santacoloma finished eighth in the 10K with a time of 32:37.28, while graduate student
Jake Kraycer was fourth in the hammer throw (47.97m) and junior
Matthew Murray was fifth (46.17m).
