Bill Gardiner ’90 was a standout player on the men’s basketball team. Currently at this time of induction, he ranks among the all-time leaders in several statistical categories, including points scored (8th–1,345), field goal percentage (6th–56.4%), rebounds (10th–619), and blocked shots (3rd–125). He continues to be just one of three players to block more than 100 shots in a career at DeSales.

In addition to his statistical ranks at DeSales, Gardiner earned Tournament MVP honors twice and was named to three All-Tournament teams throughout his career. He earned ESAC All-League honors in 1989 and was named to the NAIA District 19 Second-Team in 1988.

Gardiner graduated from DeSales with a degree in accounting and, in 2004, earned a master’s in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Baltimore. He currently serves the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics as the director of finance/associate administrator and has been with the University of Maryland School of Medicine since April 2004.

Before joining the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Gardiner worked in senior financial leadership roles with The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates and University Physicians, Inc. He also previously worked in the finance department for Avon Products and spent five years working for CPA firms.

Gardiner lives in Odenton, Md. with his wife, Jennifer, and their four children — Michael, Anna, Timothy, and Nicholas.
