Hibell was a member of both the cross country and track & field teams at DeSales.  He finished first at the PAC CC Championships in 1995 and in track & field earned All-American honors in the 5,000-meters, taking seventh place at the NCAA Division III National Championships in 1997 after winning the Mid-Atlantic Regional race.  Hibell was also the CTC Champion in the 3,000-meters twice.  At the ECAC Indoor Championships in 1997 he took second in the 3,000-meters and third in the 1,500-meters.  At his time of induction, Hibell still owned four school-records at DeSales and following graduation from DeSales he was the top American finisher in the 2000 Boston Marathon in 24th place.
