Christopher J. Mitchell ’98 was a standout player on the baseball team from 1994-96, leading the team in saves as both a freshman and sophomore. In his junior season, Chris was a starter on a team that posted a 28-9 record and won the PAC Championship with an undefeated regular season and two wins over Alvernia in the conference playoffs.

Following his junior season, Chris was drafted in the 24th round by the Detroit Tigers, advancing as far as single A ball in the organization. He continues to rank among the all-time leaders at DeSales and is tied for third all-time in saves (11) and 15th in ERA (3.97). 

From 1996-99, Chris played with several professional organizations before moving on in his baseball career to play in several adult leagues and with the Gildea Raiders pitching for the team in spring training, including scrimmages with several Major League Baseball affiliated teams.

Chis has spent time as a baseball instructor, working as a pitching and hitting instructor from 2000-04, and he currently spends part of the off-season as an instructor and consultant for the PA Baseball Academy in Collegeville, Pa.

He worked at Home Depot from 1999-04, and was promoted from sales associate to department supervisor to inventory and sales management before changing careers to work at Vanguard in Malvern, Pa., where he has worked since 2004. There, Chris is the flagship select relationship administrator and registered representative.

Chris has been active in the Knights of Columbus and Columbian Squires Circle in St. Basil’s Parish since leaving DeSales. He owns a Series 7, 6, and 63 License for Financial Securities and has a Sports Management Worldwide MLB GM and Scouting course certification. He takes yearly trips down to spring training in Florida, went on a nine-day sailing trip in the Chesapeake in 2010, and has completed two marathons and two half marathons.
