Kate (Steiner) Hanchick ’11 was a two-sport standout on both the softball and women’s tennis team graduating from DeSales with a Bachelor of Science in Communications.
Hanchick was part of the first-ever MAC Freedom Championship team in 2008 in softball and won two ECAC South Region Tournament Championships and appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 during her time on the diamond.
She was named the MAC Freedom Player of the Year in 2011 and earned All-MAC Freedom honors three times including First-Team in 2011 and Second-Team in 2009 and 2010. In addition Hanchick was named ECAC All-Region First-Team, NFCA All-Region First-Team, and the ECAC South Region Player of the Year as a senior in 2011. She was also named the Dr. John Compardo Female Athlete of the Year in 2011.
Hanchick finished her career with a .353 batting average, still ranks second all-time with 190 hits, and is the all-time leader in runs scored with 136. She continues to rank among the top 10 all-time in doubles (33 – 5th), triples (17 – 2nd), home runs (19 – 3rd), RBIs (97 – T2nd), slugging percentage (.583 – 7th), and is the all-time leader in assists with 376.
On the tennis court, Hanchick was equally impressive earning All-MAC Freedom honors three times including First-Team twice (2008 and 2009) and Second-Team once (2007). She finished her career with a 38-15 singles record and a 39-16 doubles record. Hanchick ranks eight all-time in singles wins and fourth in #1 flight singles wins as well as fifth all-time in both total doubles wins and #1 flight doubles wins.
