John Gump was the head women’s volleyball coach at DeSales from 1988-95 and he accumulated a record of 198-89 (.690). He continues to be the all-time leader in wins and winning percentage at this time of induction in 2010. During his eight years, he guided the Bulldogs to three conference championships (ESAC-1992, PAC-1994, 1995), to one ECAC championship tournament appearance, and one NCAA Tournament appearance—the first for the volleyball program. Gump won more than 20 matches in each of his eight seasons on campus.

Following his time at DeSales, Gump spent one year at Lehigh University before going to Kutztown University, where he has coached volleyball for the past 13 years. He is the all-time winningest coach in Kutztown volleyball history—entering the 2010 season with a 261-149 (.637). Gump has guided the Golden Bears to four PSAC East Titles, two NCAA Division II Tournaments, and eight 20+ win seasons. He has been named PSAC East Coach of the Year twice and the KU Women’s Athletics Coach of the Year twice. Gump has also coached 37 All-PSAC East selections, four PSAC East Players of the Year, two PSAC East Rookies of the Year, has had six players named All-Region, and has had one player named All-American.
