Jack Sobota was a member of the very first varsity basketball team in 1967-68 and was a part of the first class to play in Billera Hall his senior year in 1968-69.  He graduated with a bachelor of arts in economics in 1969 after being part of the first-ever class at Allentown College of St. Francis DeSales in 1965.
 
Following his graduation Sobota became the freshman/assistant varsity coach for the 1969-70 season and was named the head coach of the varsity team in 1971 coaching for three years and accumulating a record of 22-31, while leading DSU to its first-ever .500 season in 1971-72 with an 8-8 record.
 
Following graduation Sobota started his career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation in August of 1969 and was with Westinghouse/ABB for 46 years before retiring in June of 2015. He also coached CYO basketball for 16 years at Sacred Heart Grade School in Bethlehem Township.
